US secretary of Defense Mark Esper is said to have tasked his senior military adviser Lt-General Bryan Fenton with following up on the Qatar Air Force (QAF) file at this stage.
This comes following recent reports suggesting that Qatar has submitted a formal request to the United States to acquire F-35 fighter jets.
