Iraq, Lukoil and pre-war West Qurna-2 oil contractnote
Iraqi PM Nouri Al-Maliki paid on 9/4/09 a three-day visit to Moscow. A part of his talks there focused on pre-war oil deals between Iraq and Russian companies, notably Lukoil’s contract for West Qurna-2 oil field. The following 342-word report focuses on the issue and tells whether Al-Maliki made any promises to the Russians or not. Note that Lukoil was involved in Phase 1 of the field and signed a contract with former Saddam’s regime for Phase 2, but the latter cancelled it later in 2002.
