Iraq: Akkas gas project, Halliburton and Syria’s rolenote
The Iraqi Oil Ministry is no longer complaining that only a few companies showed interest in the Akkas gas project in western Iraq. The number of the companies that have bid so far is increasing, while the Ministry is still looking for new bidders, including notably Halliburton. The following 316-word article, published in Iraq Information Report’s issue of June 11, 2008, cites the companies that have already bid, and tells which company is still best placed to win the project, until now. The article also talks about an Iraqi agreement with Syria on the project and how this agreement will affect the awarding of the Akkas contract.
