Iraq: Priority for fence project with Saudi Arabia, or with Syria?note

The Iraqi government has plans to secure the border with Iraq’s neighbors and block infiltration routes, notably with Syria and Saudi Arabia. However, it has yet to decide on which security fence project to give priority over the other: the fence along the border with Saudi Arabia, or that along the border with Syria. The following 403-word article is published in Tactical Report Weekly Brief’s issue of May 2, 2008. It focuses on the Syria fence project, on the Iraqi needs to get it carried out and on the US political and military positions on the subject. It also tells which foreign defence contractors have already expressed interest in the project.
