Iraq: The CIA, the Pentagon and the role of Sunni groupsnote
The US Central Intelligence Agency is still banking on Sunni groups to undermine the influence of the insurgency in western Iraq. These groups fall into three categories: the tribes, the secular nationalists, and the Islamic scholars and islamist factions. The question is whether these groups are able to meet the CIA's objective.
