Shiite sources say four Shiite personalities are presumably in the running for the Premiership: Ibrahim Jaafari, Adel Abdulmahdi, Ahmad Chalabi and Iyad Allawi. According to these sources, the chances of Jaafari saving his job as PM are not yet clear. He needs the list of the “United Iraqi Alliance” to score a sweeping victory similar to January’s elections, Adel Abdlumahdi to withdraw from the race for the Premiership, and the Kurds to grant him support. Kurdish officials have so far declined to express their views about Jaafari, but KDP and PUK sources mention the Kurds may not support him this time.
