Sadrists, powernote

The Sadrists are likely to be the most powerful group within the (Shiite) United Iraqi Alliance (UIA) after agreeing to run for elections on its list. UIA sources say the Sadrists will have 30 candidates, the same as the Supreme Council for the Islamic Revolution in Iraq (SCIRI). They will ally themselves with the Islamic Fadhila Party (30 candidates), the Da’wa Party–Iraq branch (15 candidates) and at least 10 independent candidates. The Sadrists with their allies will then have no less than 70 candidates on the list, about half the seats the UIA won in January’s elections. According to these sources, the Sadrists intend to demand to have two main ministerial portfolios in the post-election government: that of Oil and either that of Interior or that of Defence.
