Saudi Arabia: “Virtual” G20 summit meetingnote

Saudi Arabia has called on 18/3/20 for a virtual G20 summit meeting next week to combat the coronavirus epidemic.

This comes as Saudi Crown Prince Mohammad Bin Salman Bin Abdulaziz is holding contacts with G20 leaders on the subject.

His contacts have so far included US President Donald Trump, British PM Boris Johnson, French President Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Angela Merkel, Spanish PM Pedro Sanchez and Indian PM Narendra Modi.

Reports from Riyadh suggest that Crown Prince Mohammad would like the G20 leaders to agree at this virtual summit meeting to join forces to fight the Covid-19 coronavirus and protect the humanity from a deadly epidemic which does not differentiate between strong and weak or ally and enemy.

Crown Prince Mohammad told several members of the ruling Al Saud family that the G20 leaders that he contacted so far all welcomed the idea and agreed to hold this meeting without hesitation.

Crown Prince Mohammad pointed to a number of suggestions that he will put forward at the summit.

These suggestions include in particular:

1)  Setting up a comprehensive plan to fight the coronavirus;

2)  Allocating a huge budget for this plan;

3)  Calling to provide urgent support to the most-affected countries.

4) Calling for a virtual meeting between all G20 Health ministers, in cooperation and coordination with the United Nations, the World Health Organization (WHO) and other international organizations;

Furthermore, Crown Prince Mohammad believes that this virtual summit will not replace the economic G20 summit scheduled for November.

This summit will take place as scheduled or will be postponed for next year.
