UAE: Advantages and disadvantages of leaving OPEC+

7 February 2023

In-DepthReport

Summary

In 2023, UAE President Sheikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Al Nahyan will have a lot on his plate as the UAE

will try to produce more oil to satisfy global demand and solidify its position as the primary Western capital destination in the region when the country hosts the UN Climate Conference (COP28) in November.

However, UAE’s current alliance with OPEC+ is hindering its energy vision. This may lead President Sheikh Mohammad to re-explore his options and make strategic decisions, including the possibility of leaving the cartel.

Tactical Report has prepared a 1341-word (4 pages) in-depth report to shed light on the main reasons behind the UAE's willingness to leave OPEC+, as well as the Emirati advantages and disadvantages of this break-up.
