About the role
Tactical Report publishes reports and news on the defense and armaments sector in the Middle East and North Africa, for readers in government and in decision-making roles within the sector.
We are looking for a reporter able to reach the information needed to cover developments in that sector and to break exclusive stories our readers can use. Our readers act on what we publish, which is why accuracy matters more to us than speed, and quality more than quantity.
The reporter's work is investigative: establishing what has happened and what may happen, and helping our analysts understand events and anticipate what follows.
Responsibilities
- Developing and growing a reliable source network close to decision-makers
- Breaking exclusive stories for our advisory publications, with responsibility and an unwavering commitment to accuracy and objectivity
- Verifying information against the required standards before passing it to editors
- Working closely with our editors and researchers on the selection of topics, sources, and treatment
Requirements
Essential
- No less than three years covering the defense and armaments sector in the Middle East and North Africa
- Enough experience to distinguish routine developments from significant ones
- The ability to cover a specific defense domain — land, sea, or air — or at least one country of the Middle East and North Africa
- The ability to engage with decision-making circles lawfully
- A grounding in geopolitical affairs and an understanding of economic and fiscal policy
- Fluency in Arabic or English
A plus, but not required
- The ability to cover one or more countries outside the region but closely tied to it, such as the United States, France, Italy, Germany, China, Japan, or South Korea
- The ability to respond to urgent information requests
