Syria: Attempts to withstand further US pressure

Following the assassination of former Lebanese PM Rafik Hariri on 14/2/05, Syria has been under heavy foreign and domestic pressure to pull out its forces from Lebanon in compliance with UN Security Council Resolution 1559. In reaction, Syrian troops have been redeployed over the past few days from Beirut and Mount Lebanon to the Bekaa valley, while other troops returned home.
