Last week (8/6/21), an Italian military aircraft was refused access into Emirati airspace, after originally having been granted approval. The aircraft, which was on its way to Afghanistan, was carrying over 40 Italian journalists as well as members of an Italian government delegation.
This prompted an immediate reaction from Secretary General of the Italian Foreign Ministry Ettore Sequi, who, at the request of Italian Foreign Minister Luigi Di Maio, summoned Emirati Ambassador to Rome Omar Al-Shamsi for this “disappointing” and “surprising” decision.
Is this incident expected to have an impact on the Emirati-Italian military cooperation?
