The Saudi National Security Council that King Abdullah created and approved its by-laws early this week is a supreme consultative body in charge of planning out a new strategy for the kingdom's domestic and foreign policy. It will not obviously interfere in the gas and oil policy, which remains up to the Supreme Council for Petroleum and Mineral Affairs. However, it will enjoy a margin to interfere in plans to fight terrorism and review strategic security and military programmes.
