Iraq: Three scenarios to end the dispute with KRGnote

The Iraqi Ministry of Oil in Baghdad announced on 21/5/2022 that it would seek to establish a new oil company in the Kurdistan Region.

This comes as the Iraqi government seems unable to reach an understanding with the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) regarding the “illegal” oil contracts with the international oil companies (IOCs) in the Kurdistan region of Iraq.

Therefore, Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kadhimi, Minister of Oil Ihsan Abdul Jabbar Ismail, and Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein are reported to have agreed to take steps in case the KRG refused to accept Iraq’s Federal Supreme Court’s decisions.

What are these steps?

What impact will these steps have on the IOCs working in Kurdistan?

Can the U.S. and France help end the dispute between the Iraqi government and KRG?

Tactical Report has prepared a 496-word report to answer these questions and more.
